ABOUT THE COVER

This statement of good advice was published in John Deere Tractor sales literature in the late 1930s; this specific piece (42-page A456-38-6) featuring “General-Purpose” Tractors, specifically the new Models “A” and “B” when they were introduced as “styled” tractors in June of 1938. The message was to not be hasty when choosing a tractor, because there’s also the matter of having a line of compatible equipment to handle all of the jobs on the farm. John Deere, at that time, had nine other factories beyond the tractor factory, all dedicated to producing high-quality products to work in conjunction with the tractors. Deere regarded the equipment to be an integral part of the tractor itself, testing it year-‘round in several locations across the country, engineering and developing much of it at a scientific level at the centrally located Technical Center in Moline, Illinois, directed by Theo Brown.
